Willie James Houston, Sr., age 91, of Kinston, passed away Monday, February 16, 2026, at home. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Barnett officiating.
Gerald Dwight Simmons, died at home on Monday, February 2, 2026 in Raleigh North Carolina at age 89. A service celebrating Geraldโs life will be held at Outlawโs Bridge Universalist Church, 4408 NC-111, Seven Springs North Carolina, 28578, on Saturday, February 21, at 3 PM. A reception will follow the service.
Ruth Gauldin Grady Fleming, 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, while receiving care at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Ruth was born on January 8, 1939, in Lenoir County to the late Robert Clarence Gauldin and Lula Marie Neal Gauldin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Ray Grady Sr., in 1970; her second husband, William Glenn Fleming, in 1995; and her brother, Larry Gauldin.
Betty Jean Grantham Rollins, 91, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Betty was born in Wayne County to the late Emma Lee Alphin Grantham Hall and Paul Grantham on July 14, 1934. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, DJ Hall; her husband of 68 years, Benjamin Ennis Rollins Sr.; a son, Leonidas โLeeโ Grantham Rollins; her sister, Billie Hail; her brother, Paul Grantham; and nieces, Lea Rollins and Paula Hail.
Kinston-Patti Dupree Alphin, 88, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026. Patti was born in Duplin County on April 9, 1937, to the late Clifton Floyd Dupree and Alice Smith Dupree. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Alphin; and a son, David Clifton Alphin.
Michael Jean Braswell, 78, passed away on Monday, February 2nd, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at 2pm in the Edwards Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Dixie Rose Hardy Carter, 78, was welcomed into her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. She was born in Wayne County on November 2, 1947, to the late William Randolph Hardy and Florence Elizabeth Mozingo Hardy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth King; a son, Glen King; a grandson, David Greenup; and her sisters, Regina Stelley, Gwynn Holland, and Betty Deaver.
Dorothy โDotโ Lane Crisp Bennett of Kinston, NC, passed away on February 2, 2026. She was 93 years old. Services will be held on Saturday, February 7th, at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with graveside services immediately following at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Ann Stroud Sutton of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Kinston, N.C., passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Bright and May Stroud of Kinston and sister of the late Ivey Stroud.
William โBillโ Francis Russell died on Sunday, December 21, 2025 in Kinston, NC. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Bill was a native of Greenville, TN, and attended East Tennessee State University and served in the National Guard.
Terrance โTerryโ Fleming Foss, 73, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Terry was born in Lenoir County to the late Emmett Wooten Foss, Sr. and Geneva Smith Foss Wood on April 7, 1952. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Kathy Mundinger English; brothers, Robert Earl Foss and Simon Wood; and great-nephew, Charlie Robert Foss.
Cary Russell Vinson, 78, passed away on January 25, 2026. Russell was born in Wayne County on October 24, 1947, to the late Milford Russell Vinson and Carrie Mae Parrish Vinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Andrea Nikole โNikkiโ Vinson; and two sisters, Jean Rouse and Kaye Gray.
Ms. Ellen Joyce High, beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, and Nana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 19, 2026, while at her home in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Thursday, January 29th, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill, with Pastor John Robert Harris officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
La Grange- Jeffery Craig Radford, 69, was welcomed home on January 23, 2026. The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship and visitation on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carol Crawford Smith of Magnolia Cottage, Dover, North Carolina, passed away on January 23rd, 2026. No formal service is planned at this time. Mrs. Smithโs ashes will be interred at a graveside service in Iron Duff at a later date.

Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Jackson Heights Original Free Will Baptist Church.
