Charlie Dunn Alston, passed away peacefully at his home in LaGrange, NC on August 10, 2025, at the age of 86. The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service ~ Letchworth Chapel in Scotland Neck on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with Elder William Edwards officiating the service. A private burial will take place at the Baptist Cemetery.
Ruben Carnell Sloan, Sr. of Kinston passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 15 at 11:30 am in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 am until the funeral hour at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at 2 pm at Wayne Memorial Park with military rights in Goldsboro.
Francis Earl Wood, 89, passed away peacefully early Friday morning at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home in La Grange. A service celebrating Earl’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service on Tuesday at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
Walter Timothy "Tim" Shivar, 84, of Snow Hill, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025.
Patricia McGown Rockenhauser, 94, passed away in her home on August 5, 2025, surrounded by family and friends A service celebrating Pat’s life will take place at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 7th, 2025, at Westminster United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed by the church.
Catherine Faye Lokey Dail, lovingly known as Faye, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the age of 74. A service of love and remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 noon. Committal will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
Mr. David Woodrow Holt Jr, age 77, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, July 26th, 2025, at the ECU Inpatient Hospice with his beloved wife and daughter by his side. Funeral Services will be held graveside 11 AM Tuesday, July 29th, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Coombs officiating. The family will greet friends and extended relatives immediately following and other times at the Holt residence.

Esther Whitfield Almond, 91, was graciously welcomed into the presence of her Lord on July 20, 2025. Born in Wayne County on November 6, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Stenis J. Whitfield and Ruby Lee Etheridge Whitfield. A service of love and remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Rouse Funeral Home, with Rev. Percy Cunningham and Rev. Leon Grubbs officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service. A private committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Edna Adams Potter went home to be with the Lord and reunited with her husband, Billy, on July 19, 2025. Edna passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
