Edna Potter

October 21, 1942 – July 19, 2025

Edna Adams Potter went home to be with the Lord and reunited with her husband, Billy, on July 19, 2025. Edna passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.

Edna was born in Pitt County, NC on October 21, 1942. Edna reminisced about growing up in a little yellow house that had a large front porch with rocking chairs off Rt. 1 in Grifton, NC. Edna often spoke about how her parents created a house full of fun and love and how they were always there for their children. Edna passed that legacy on to her two daughters and grandchildren. On March 11, 1961, Edna married the love of her life, Billy Potter. Billy and Edna were married for 63 wonderful years. She was a proud employee of First Citizens Bank in Kinston, NC, where she retired with 44 years of devoted service to her customers. She was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years and treasured the time she and Billy spent with their Sunday school group.

Edna was well known for her cooking skills. Her family always loved coming to her home for holidays and Sunday lunch to eat her chicken pastry, chicken salad, homemade cornbread, lemon pound cake, and dressing. She taught her daughters and grandkids how to play Rummy and somehow managed to get the Joker every time she played. She also loved playing scratch-offs with her family and was always the lucky winner.

Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Potter; her parents, David and Julia Adams; her brother, Sammy Adams; and her aunt, Betty Lewis.

She is survived by her daughters, Jan Potter Prevo of Clayton, NC and Julie Potter Rouse and her husband, Herb, of La Grange, NC; six grandchildren, Ashley Hester (and her husband, Ken), Megan Worley (and her husband, J.R.), William (Frank) Prevo, Macy Rouse, Avery Rouse, and Lexy Rouse; and three great-grandchildren, Isaac Hester, Madelyn Hester, and Emmett Worley. She is also survived by her brother, Carroll (and his wife, Beverly); her two sisters, Hilda and Mary (and her husband, Rob); and her dear friend, Julia Thompson.

Edna will forever be remembered for her loving spirit and kindness.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, 108 N. Caswell Street, La Grange, NC 28551. A graveside service will follow immediately after at Westview Cemetery in Kinston, NC.
