Dwight Laws
February 14, 1940 – July 22, 2025
Dwight Moody Laws, 85, entered into the presence of his Lord on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Dwight was born in Wayne County on February 14, 1940 to the late Leamon Moody Laws and Luna B. Laws. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Sallie Hinton Laws; sister, Alice Smith; brothers, Guilford T. Laws and Shelton Laws; and his beloved son, James Dwight Laws.
Dwight dedicated nearly 35 years of service to Cherry Hospital, where his steady presence and compassion for others made him the perfect fit for his role as a nurse assistant. Faithfully devoted to his Lord through his prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness, he was a member of Walker Memorial Church.
A gifted musician, Dwight found joy in playing the guitar and harmonica. Singing and playing for over 25 years alongside his first cousin, Al Laws, the duo shared the message of faith through music. Whether performing in church services, revivals, or at local nursing homes, their music brought comfort and inspiration to countless people.
A graveside service to celebrate Dwight’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery, La Grange. The family will receive friends following the service.
Dwight is survived by his step-son, Marty Whitley and wife, Martha Ann; his loving sister, Mary Southern; his first cousin who was like a brother, Al Laws; along with many friends and his church family.
