David L. Bishop, cherished husband, devoted father, and loving Pop, passed away on Saturday February 28, 2026 leaving a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. Please help us celebrate Dave’s life on Saturday, March 7 at 10:00 AM at Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church, 1003 W New Bern Road, Kinston NC, Pastor Cody Mansfield officiating. A time of loving the family will follow the service with interment at 2:00 at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Vernon Clifton Sorrell, age 85, passed away on February 26, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held at La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church, 802 S. Caswell Street, La Grange, NC, on Friday, March 6th at 6:00 p.m., with Reverend Ronnie Hobgood, Reverend Terry Coates, and Reverend Josh Hobgood officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service.

Ava Privette Cooke, 91, of Kinston, passed away on February 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Edward Earl Pate, age 65, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 25, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday, February 27th, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Jeff Hayes officiating. The Committal will be held privately at the Mewborn Cemetery where Earl will be buried with his parents. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 10:50 AM Friday.
Mr. Thomas Carol King, Jr., affectionately known as “Tom,” passed away on Wednesday morning, February 25, 2026, at UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston, North Carolina, at the age of 76. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Saturday, February 28th, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Jerry Pike officiating. Committal Services will immediately follow at the Mewborn Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday in the hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:50 PM.

John Wayne Quinn, 62, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, La Grange.
Gary Wayne “Tiny” Radford, 62, was released from the troubles of this world on Thursday, February 19, 2026. A service of love and remembrance will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside committal will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell Eugene Cash, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday morning, February 19, 2026, at UNC Lenoir Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held graveside 1 PM Monday, February 23rd, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Pastor Brick Crowder officiating. The family will greet friends and extended relatives immediately following the service.
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Jo Ann White Rhodes entered into eternal life with Jesus Christ, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on November 8, 1941, Jo Ann was the daughter of the late Haywood Josiah White and Addie Margaret White. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jon Anderson White and Elvira White Fortescue.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Ham officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Private entombment will be at a later date.
Laura Bynum Wade, age 84, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 19, 2026, at her home. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 21st, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with the Reverend Al Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and other times at Mrs. Wade’s residence.

Willie James Houston, Sr., age 91, of Kinston, passed away Monday, February 16, 2026, at home. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Barnett officiating.
Gerald Dwight Simmons, died at home on Monday, February 2, 2026 in Raleigh North Carolina at age 89. A service celebrating Gerald’s life will be held at Outlaw’s Bridge Universalist Church, 4408 NC-111, Seven Springs North Carolina, 28578, on Saturday, February 21, at 3 PM. A reception will follow the service.
Ruth Gauldin Grady Fleming, 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, while receiving care at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Ruth was born on January 8, 1939, in Lenoir County to the late Robert Clarence Gauldin and Lula Marie Neal Gauldin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Ray Grady Sr., in 1970; her second husband, William Glenn Fleming, in 1995; and her brother, Larry Gauldin.
Betty Jean Grantham Rollins, 91, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Betty was born in Wayne County to the late Emma Lee Alphin Grantham Hall and Paul Grantham on July 14, 1934. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, DJ Hall; her husband of 68 years, Benjamin Ennis Rollins Sr.; a son, Leonidas “Lee” Grantham Rollins; her sister, Billie Hail; her brother, Paul Grantham; and nieces, Lea Rollins and Paula Hail.
Kinston-Patti Dupree Alphin, 88, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026. Patti was born in Duplin County on April 9, 1937, to the late Clifton Floyd Dupree and Alice Smith Dupree. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Alphin; and a son, David Clifton Alphin.
Michael Jean Braswell, 78, passed away on Monday, February 2nd, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at 2pm in the Edwards Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
