Obituary: Mitchell Eugene Cash

MITCHELL EUGENE CASH

Mr. Mitchell Eugene Cash, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday morning, February 19, 2026, at UNC Lenoir Hospital following a brief illness. Born October 18, 1936, he was the son of Wilbur Eugene and Carrie Gray Spikes Cash.

In addition to his parents, those preceding him in death include his wife, Mary Hice Cash; sister, Glenda Cash Moye; and niece, Deena C. Martin.

Surviving is his son, Mitchell Christopher Cash of Greenville; grandson, Layton Cash of Greenville; sister, Carolyn Cash Batten and husband Vernon of Kinston; brother, Jimmy Cash and wife Mary of Newport News, Viginia; special nieces and nephews; and his special dog, Stella, that he loved cooking bacon for each morning. Additionally, he had many cats that he loved and cared for; Eugene relished sitting on his back deck watching them play.

Among his favorite pastimes were fishing at the Contentnea Creek and studying American History, of which he was very knowledgeable. For many years he owned and operated the Twin Oaks Tavern in Maury and previously worked with Dale Music Company.

Funeral Services will be held graveside 1 PM Monday, February 23rd, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Pastor Brick Crowder officiating. The family will greet friends and extended relatives immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the First Baptist Church of Snow Hill, PO Box 484, Snow Hill, NC 28580.
