Since April 27, 2026, KPD detectives have conducted an extensive investigation that included reviewing surveillance footage, executing forensic search warrants, and interviewing multiple witnesses. Through this work, investigators identified 18-year-old Carmello Tavion Banks of Greenville, North Carolina, as the suspect in the murder of Charles Wade Jr.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the store manager, who advised that a male subject inside the business had been asked multiple times to leave but refused.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who reported that 41-year-old Zebroan Artis had taken her keys and stolen her vehicle.
