Kinston police arrest Deep Run man following vehicle pursuit

On May 12, 2026, at approximately 7:59 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department's D-Squad were patrolling the area of Adkin Street and Tower Hill Road when they observed a vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the driver fled from law enforcement, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended in the area of Bonnie Lane and Indigo Lane when the vehicle came to a stop. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

After a short foot pursuit, officers apprehended 22-year-old Monterio Davis Jr. of Deep Run without further incident.

During the investigation, officers discovered a 5-year-old child inside the vehicle. The child was safely released to a responsible adult.

In addition to multiple motor vehicle citations, Davis was charged with the following:

- Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle

- Resisting a Public Officer

- Child Abuse

- Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle

Davis was also wanted by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction for Interfering with an Electronic Monitoring Device, as well as an unrelated outstanding Warrant for Arrest.

At the time of this release, Davis remains in custody of the Lenoir County Jail.
