KPD: Traffic Stop Leads to DWI and Drug Charges

On March 27, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Kinston Police Department D-Squad officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to maintain lane control.

Officers made contact with the driver, 35-year-old Shammielle Kilpatrick, and observed signs of impairment. Following an investigation, Kilpatrick was taken into custody and charged with the following:

Driving While Impaired

Driving While License Revoked

Fail to Maintain Lane Control

Resisting a Public Officer

Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

At the time of this release, Kilpatrick remains in custody at the Lenoir County Jail.
