KPD Investigating Shooting Involving Two Juveniles

On October 7, 2026, at approximately 10:02 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a residence on the 1500 block of Charlotte Avenue regarding a reported gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, officers located a 15-year-old juvenile suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg.

While officers were on scene, a second gunshot wound was reported at St. John Apartments. Officers responded and located another 15-year-old juvenile suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the arm.

Through the investigation, officers determined that both juveniles were involved in the same incident, which occurred on the 500 block of Stadium Drive.

Both juveniles were transported to ECU Health for treatment and have since been released.

As a result of the investigation, the 15-year-old juvenile who sustained the gunshot wound to the arm has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Attempted Murder

  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury (AWDWIKISI)

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Minor

  • Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits

The investigation remains ongoing.
