UPDATE: Arrests made in November 21 shooting investigation
On November 21, 2025, at approximately 2:05 a.m., officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound at the Circle K on N. Herritage Street. Upon arrival, officers located 59-year-old Thomas Watson suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. EMS transported Watson to ECU Health for treatment.
KPD Detectives continued their investigation into this incident and identified the suspect as 19-year-old Kamari Gunter of Fayetteville, NC. Detectives obtained warrants for:
- Attempted First Degree Murder
- Assault With a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury
- Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle
- Felony Conspiracy (3 Counts)
- Discharging a Firearm within City Limits.
On December 2, 2025, Gunter and a 17-year-old juvenile accomplice were located in Fayetteville and taken into custody. At the time of their arrest, both were found in possession of a vehicle reported stolen to KPD on November 21, 2025. Following their apprehension, KPD Detectives secured additional warrants for Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Burning of Personal Property, and Felony Littering.
