Obituary: Virginia Ann Brisco

On Thursday, October 1, 2026, Virginia Ann Brisco, loving wife, mother and grandmother, flew home to be with Jesus. She was preceded in death by her father Gene Henry Hutsler, parents Lois and Glen Kochenower, sister Carol Jo McGoffin, son Matthew James Brisco and husband John "Morris" Brisco.

A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Kinston on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends following the service.

Virginia was born on March 2, 1950, in Iberia, MO. She graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma where she also met the love of her life and best friend, Morris Brisco. They married on August 28, 1970, and together raised two children, Elizabeth and Matthew.

Virginia was known for her sweet spirit and devotion to family and friends. She had an unyielding faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and shared the gospel with everyone she met. She frequently invited people she just met to her church, First Baptist Church of Kinston, where she had served in many ministries including music and WMU (Women's Missionary Union). She loved sewing, quilting and crafting, and was part of the Neuse Quilters Guild.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Brisco Owens and son-in-law Daniel Sharpe Owens; grandchildren Anna Laura Hutsell (Zach) and Zachary Sharpe Owens; sisters Barbara Kochenower Brunette (Tony) and Michelle Kochenower Wingo (Justin); a former daughter-in-law, Carole Pierce and children Heather, Noble and Willow; and her loving and loyal dog, Rocky.
