Margie Croom Coley, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 28, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, after a long and fierce battle with cancer. Annette Lowery Daughety, 75 of Kinston passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Visitation will be held at 10:00 on April 4, 2026, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 at Shady Grove Church on Middle Road in Kinston. Internment will take place at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston at 3:00. Pastor Greg Dickerson and Tim Nichols will preside.
Sex Offender Arrested for Registration Violations
On March 31, 2026, deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Elijiah Lamar Cannon for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements under North Carolina State Law.
Lenoir County Guardian ad Litem program highlights child advocates during prevention month
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Child Advocate Month, and North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program 9th Judicial District is raising awareness of the need for more dedicated members of the community to step up and become Guardian ad Litem child advocate volunteers, and help end child abuse and neglect, through supporting children and their families.
Hickory Grove Church (10)
Historical records indicate that Hickory Grove Church of Bucklesberry began as a Free Will Baptist (F.W.B.) work. Organized by 1841, it remained F.W.B. until dismissal from the Original F.W.B. Conference in 1864 for reasons unknown. By 1867, evidence suggests it was leaning Methodist through a loose association with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South (M.E.C.S.) Conference.

Raleigh man arrested on traffic stop, charged with drug trafficking and weapons violation
On March 31, 2026, at approximately 10:30 PM, KPD’s B-Squad conducted a traffic stop on Highway 70 West involving 51-year-old Belal Allan of Raleigh. During the stop, Allan advised officers that he was transporting illegal THC products.
