The Lenoir County Board of Commissioners met Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, approving a series of economic development agreements, departmental budget adjustments and tax-related resolutions during a meeting that highlighted continued industrial growth and ongoing state-funded flood mitigation work.

On November 21, 2025, at 2:05 a.m., officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound at the Circle K on N. Herritage Street. Officers arrived and located 59-year-old Thomas Watson suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. EMS transported Watson to ECU Health for treatment.
On November 20, 2025, at approximately 8:41 p.m., Kinston Police Department B-Squad officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of Old Snow Hill Road. Officers also received information that the suspect was at a residence in the 2200 block of Old Snow Hill Road.
Former Kinston City Council candidate Quarla Blackwell filed her third election protest this week, prompting a preliminary consideration meeting Thursday by the Lenoir County Board of Elections. The board unanimously voted to deny the new protest, concluding there was not enough evidence to advance it to a full hearing.
The Kinston City Council heard wide-ranging public concerns Tuesday night during its Nov. 18 meeting, which included discussions on property taxes, policing, abandoned structures, stormwater issues and frustrations about the city’s public comment process.

On November 20, 2025, Deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office C Shift, along with members of the Sheriff’s Crash Reduction Team and the Kinston Police Department, located a stolen motor vehicle in the area of Lowe’s in Kinston.

Several churches in Lenoir and Jones counties are serving as local drop-off sites for Operation Christmas Child during National Collection Week, which runs Nov. 17 through Nov. 24. Quarla Blackwell has filed a new election protest. The Lenoir County Board of Elections announced that a Preliminary Consideration Meeting will be held Thursday, November 20 at 5 p.m. to review her filing. A copy of the protest is attached.
This meeting is in addition to the Protest Hearing scheduled for Monday, November 24 at 5:30 p.m. for the election protests filed against Kareem Moore and Les Lipford. Both meetings will be held at the Lenoir County Board of Elections office.

On November 13, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a power transformer used to provide electricity to Deep Run residents was stolen from the 3700 block of Old Highway 11.
After more than three decades of dedicated service, Rhonda Barwick is retiring, marking the end of a remarkable 32-year tenure with the city. Barwick began her career on September 13th, 1993, arriving excited and early for her first position as an administrative assistant in the city manager's office, a desk located right beside the office she occupies now, bringing her career "full circle". She was hired by then-City Manager Steve Raper.
On November 17, 2025, at approximately 1:43 a.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2018 Nissan Altima for a traffic violation in the area of Greenbriar Road. When officers activated their emergency blue lights, the vehicle failed to stop and fled from the scene.
The Snow Hill Board of Commissioners held its regular meeting on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The board approved the agenda and consent agenda, adding a budget amendment to close out a parks grant.
On November 16, 2025, KPD’s B-Squad officers responded to a residence on the 600 block of East Washington Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, officers attempted to investigate the incident; however, the disturbance continued.
