Downtown Kinston prepares to kick off holiday season with annual tree lighting
Kinston is gearing up for the start of the holiday season as Downtown Kinston Revitalization prepares to host its annual tree lighting celebration, Turn on the Holidays, on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. in Pearson Park.
The free community event features live music, a jazz Christmas performance by Antuan Hawkins and Sharon Mervin, and festive dances from MOOVES Dance Studio. Santa and his elf will also make an appearance, along with seasonal decorations throughout the park.
Downtown Kinston Revitalization Executive Director Leon Steele said this year’s event is designed to bring the community together and set a joyful tone for the season.
“We are excited about Christmas Card Lane and appreciative of the enthusiastic support from the participants,” Steele said. “There are 40 giant Christmas cards to enjoy.”
New this year is Christmas Card Lane, a display of oversized illuminated holiday cards featuring business logos and QR codes. The project is intended to simplify participation for local businesses while adding another visual attraction to downtown.
Organizers encourage residents to bundle up, bring their families and enjoy an evening of holiday music, performances and community spirit. More details are available at downtownkinston.com.
