Cynthia K. “Cindy” Whitney, 66, of Dover, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service to celebrate Cindy’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Dover Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior, at 10:00 a.m., in the church fellowship hall.

Obituary: Lucille Greene Eubanks

Lucille Greene Eubanks, 82, of Kinston, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2025. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm on November 5, 2025 at Gordon Street Christian Church, Kinston, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 pm officiated by Reverend Dr. Laura Wood. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the church.

*UPDATE* Homicide Investigation and Arrest

On October 28, 2025, at approximately 10:43 a.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to 405 Manning Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located 31-year-old Ryechic Harper, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, Harper succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The recent property revaluation has delivered a crippling blow to Kinston homeowners, and our City Council has a duty—and the legal authority—to provide immediate relief. According to North Carolina General Statute 159-15, it is absolutely possible for the City Council to reduce the tax rate now to address this massive increase in our tax base. They must act before January 1st.
