Trey Cash Named Chief Operating Officer for Regional Economic Development Partnership
The North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region has named Trey Cash as its new Chief Operating Officer, expanding his role in economic development across Greene, Lenoir, and Wayne counties as well as the North Carolina Global TransPark.
Cash previously served as Economic Development Director for Greene and Lenoir Counties. In his new role, he will help oversee the Region’s strategy and daily operations while continuing to lead both the Greene County Economic Development Partnership and the Lenoir County Development Alliance. His office will be based at the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston.
The organizational change follows a restructuring effort by Greene, Lenoir, and Wayne counties to strengthen shared capacity and streamline economic development functions under a unified regional framework. Officials say the shift is designed to improve regional coordination, support existing employers, and enhance the region’s ability to compete for industry and workforce investments.
As part of the transition, the Region is hiring an Existing Industry Director dedicated to Greene and Lenoir Counties, with responsibilities focused on supporting and expanding local industry. The job posting is currently available here.
Cash said the new role strengthens work already underway.
“I have been fortunate to work alongside great partners in Greene and Lenoir Counties, and I am grateful for the trust and teamwork we have built together,” Cash said. “This new role allows me to continue that same work in an expanded capacity, helping strengthen our regional efforts and grow opportunities across Eastern North Carolina. It is a privilege to keep serving the place I call home.”
Cash brings more than 13 years of experience in local and state government. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Fayetteville State University, a Master of Science in Leadership from Grand Canyon University, and a Bachelor of Science from Western Carolina University. He is a Certified North Carolina Economic Developer and a Certified Workforce Developer.
In 2025, Cash was recognized by the North Carolina Economic Development Association as its Emerging Leader of the Year, becoming the first recipient from Greene or Lenoir Counties, and the first from any county east of Interstate 95, to receive the award.
The North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region supports industrial development, business recruitment, and existing industry services across Greene, Lenoir, and Wayne Counties and the NC Global TransPark campus.
