Murphy statement on Senate Democrats' 13th vote against government funding
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., issued the following statement after Senate Democrats’ 13th vote against the clean, continuing resolution to fund the government:
"The federal government has now been shut down for 28 days because Senate Democrats are ransoming normal life in America for $1.5 trillion in liberal, progressive policy initiatives," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. "They have voted 13 times against the clean, continuing resolution, passed by the House of Representatives, that funds the government at current levels. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democrats are terrified of the Progressive Left, so they continue to choose to protect their fragile political careers rather than do what is right for the American people by funding the government.
"Tens of thousands of federal employees are working without receiving a paycheck. This week, the country’s largest union representing federal workers, the American Federation of Government Employees, called for Democrats to pass the clean continuing resolution. Families are being forced to work without pay while struggling to cover rent, groceries, gas, and medicine. Worse yet, funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is drying up in states across the country, putting families in need of food assistance in peril. Democrats knew these consequences were guaranteed and have openly admitted using the pain they are causing as leverage. This charade is dangerous for the country, and a shutdown helps absolutely nobody. Republicans will continue to vote to reopen the government and end this madness. Senate Democrats just need to vote yes."
