Obituary: Lucille Greene Eubanks
Lucille Greene Eubanks, 82, of Kinston, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2025. Born July 18, 1943, to the late Earl Franklin Greene and Annie Brown Greene, Lucille lived a life of faith, family, and purpose.
A graduate of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) and East Carolina University, she earned her master’s in education. She served 25 years with Kinston/Lenoir County Schools, where she retired as Department Chair of Exceptional Children. A lifelong advocate for children with learning differences, she touched countless lives with her compassion and leadership.
A devoted member of Gordon Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Lucille’s faith guided every part of her life. For over 50 years, she also pursued her love of fitness, health, and learning—attending aerobics, Pilates, yoga, and spinning classes, as well as courses in nutrition and creative arts such as ceramics, needlepoint, and crochet.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil Lee Eubanks; daughter Joy Elizabeth Eubanks; son Russell Virgil Eubanks (partner Melissa Mattocks); grandson Miles Westbrook Eubanks; and brother Timothy Earl Greene (Karen). She was preceded in death by her sister, Frankie Greene Penny.
Visitation begins at 1:00 pm on November 5, 2025 at Gordon Street Christian Church, Kinston, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 pm officiated by Reverend Dr. Laura Wood. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the church.
