Snow Hill Primary Terrific Kid Awards

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards.  Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.  On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work.  Below are Snow Hill Primary's last Terrific Kid Awards!

She didn't know where her children were taking her for brunch because her son told her they didn't want her to know in advance.

Lenoir Community College Celebrates 63rd Commencement

Lenoir Community College celebrated its 63rd Annual Commencement Ceremony on May 8, recognizing the achievements of 370 graduates whose ages ranged from 17 to 73. Family members, faculty, and community leaders gathered at the LCC Gymnasium to honor the Class of 2025, whose determination and resilience reflect the college’s mission to transform lives through education.

Obituary - Plato Collins Barwick (P.C.), Jr.

Plato Collins Barwick (P.C.), Jr, 87, died peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025 at The Cypress Glen of Greenville. A visitation with family will be held Friday evening, May 16, 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kinston Country Club. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 17th at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree St, Kinston, NC with Rev. Tom Warren officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in St. Francis Garden at St. Mary’s Church.

Charley Jones presented with the NC Governor's Volunteer award

TRENTON - In front of a capacity crowd at this past Monday night's Jones County Commissioners meeting, Mr. Charley Jones was presented with the 2025 NC Governors Volunteer Service Award in recognition of his commitment to Jones County and his service as the Grants Chair of the Jones County Community Foundation and his service as the President of the Jones County Historical Society.

Letter to the Editor: Greene County Budget Process Needs to Start Earlier

As a Greene County Commissioner, I am writing to express my concern about the timeline of the budget process for the upcoming 2025-2026 fiscal year in our county. While neighboring counties like Pitt, Lenoir, and Wilson are well into their budget discussions, holding workshops and making critical decisions, Greene County Commissioners have yet to receive a copy of our proposed budget.
