At approximately 12:51 AM on May 12, 2025, officers from the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad conducted a traffic stop on W Vernon Avenue near Greenbriar Road for a motor vehicle violation. During the stop, officers identified the driver as Ricky Moody, 50, of Lenoir County, who had an outstanding Order for Arrest.
On May 10, 2025, officers with the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad responded to a request from the Beaufort Police Department to check the area of Walmart for a vehicle linked to an unauthorized use investigation.
SNOW HILL — The Town of Snow Hill is facing growing scrutiny after it was revealed that town officials have been in talks with Greene County leaders to potentially dissolve the Snow Hill Police Department — a development that caught the department’s own chief by surprise and has prompted public outcry.

As I listened to several friends discuss their plans for Mother's Day celebrations, it struck me how varied they were. Plans ranged from dining in fancy restaurants to outdoor extended family cookouts. One involved a surprise. She didn't know where her children were taking her for brunch because her son told her they didn't want her to know in advance.
Lenoir Community College celebrated its 63rd Annual Commencement Ceremony on May 8, recognizing the achievements of 370 graduates whose ages ranged from 17 to 73. Family members, faculty, and community leaders gathered at the LCC Gymnasium to honor the Class of 2025, whose determination and resilience reflect the college’s mission to transform lives through education.

Plato Collins Barwick (P.C.), Jr, 87, died peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025 at The Cypress Glen of Greenville. A visitation with family will be held Friday evening, May 16, 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kinston Country Club. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 17th at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree St, Kinston, NC with Rev. Tom Warren officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in St. Francis Garden at St. Mary’s Church.
TRENTON - In front of a capacity crowd at this past Monday night's Jones County Commissioners meeting, Mr. Charley Jones was presented with the 2025 NC Governors Volunteer Service Award in recognition of his commitment to Jones County and his service as the Grants Chair of the Jones County Community Foundation and his service as the President of the Jones County Historical Society.
As a Greene County Commissioner, I am writing to express my concern about the timeline of the budget process for the upcoming 2025-2026 fiscal year in our county. While neighboring counties like Pitt, Lenoir, and Wilson are well into their budget discussions, holding workshops and making critical decisions, Greene County Commissioners have yet to receive a copy of our proposed budget.
