An Absconder is defined in Division of Community Corrections (DCC) policy as “an offender who is actively avoiding supervision by making his/her whereabouts unknown to the supervising officer.” Statewide, there are about 12,000 probationers who have absconded probation – about 10% of all supervised probationers.

NCDMV expanding its online services

To provide more options for its customers, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is expanding its online options. The changes mean that starting yesterday certain full provisional license holders will be able to convert credentials to a Class C driver license. Details on which license holders qualify can be found on the DMV website.

Officials: ‘Be aware of potential major flooding in Lenoir County’

Lenoir County government officials are advising residents to remain vigilant as the Neuse River continues to rise following recent heavy rainfall that has occurred in the past few days.

Official projections are the river is going to hit 21.9 feet — considered “major flood stage” — Wednesday evening, Nov. 18. Additional rises above that projection are possible. As of Friday morning, the river was at 12.5 feet; it had risen to 13.7 feet Friday evening.

Neuse River and Contentnea Creek water level projections forecast major flooding by Monday, 11/16

As of 11:45 am Thursday, the NWS Weather Forecast Office Newport/Morehead City, NC’s latest hydrograph indicates the Neuse River at Kinston flooding projections as Friday, 11/13 Minor Flooding Stage at 14.0’, Monday, 11/16 Moderate Flooding Stage at 18.0’ and Monday into Tuesday, 11/17 Major Flooding State at 21.0’.

As of 12:00 pm Thursday, the NWS Weather Forecast Office Newport/Morehead City, NC’s latest hydrograph indicates the Contentnea Creek at Hookerton flooding projections as Friday, 11/13 Minor Flooding Stage at 13.0’, Sunday, 11/15 Moderate Flooding Stage at 16.0’ and Monday into Tuesday, 11/17 Major Flooding State at 18.0’.

Missing Kayaker Found alive and well

The Kinston Department of Fire and Rescue would like to announce that the missing kayaker was found last night by the Kinston Police Department. The Kinston Police Department was called to a Missing Person Report on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at the Kinston Nature Center, where a kayak was located tied up to the boat dock with only a life jacket. The owner of the kayak, later identified as Joseph Gallows, was reported to be last seen in this area on Monday, November 09, 2020 at approximately 12:00 PM by people in the area of the park.

Localized flash flooding possible through Friday morning

From the National Weather Service:

Deep tropical moisture from distant Tropical Storm Eta is forecast to interact with a slow moving cold front late tonight and tomorrow, resulting in widespread showers and a few thunderstorms.

Heavy downpours are possible and could lead to localized flash flooding. The most likely period for flooding is Thursday, but heavier rainfall will begin late tonight.

A widespread 2 to 4 inches of rain is forecast, but as much as 4 to 6 inches is possible closer to the coast.
