Dontrez Styles signs National Letter of Intent with UNC Chapel Hill

Dontrez Styles, a 6’7 Kinston High School basketball player signed his National Letter of Intent with UNC at Chapel Hill.  

“Days like today have to be celebrated,” said Perry Tyndall, the boys basketball coach at Kinston High School. “It’s a fulfillment of a dream, of a goal for Dontrez.”

On April 18, Styles announced his commitment to UNC. Other options included Clemson, Georgetown, Maryland, NC State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, and Wake Forest.

“He is the consummate teammate,” said Tyndall.

Dontrez signed the letter of intent with his family at Kinston High School in front of students and staff.

“It means a lot to me, it’s a dream come true,” said Styles.

Kinston is no stranger to basketball players moving on to greater things. Styles joins the ranks of Brandon Ingram, Jerry Stackhouse, Reggie bullock, Cedrick Maxwell and Tony Dawson. Stackhouse and Bullock also went to UNC.

“I’m very excited. I’m excited to go there and learn from the hall of fame coach. You’ve got great players and great coaching staff. I feel like it was the best decision for me and my family,” said Styles.
