This day serves as an opportunity to remember loved ones who have died from drug overdose as well as to acknowledge the grief of those left behind and to encourage support and recovery for everyone impacted by substance use and overdose.

Sadie Ann Turner Aycock, 72, set out for her final journey on Thursday, August 14, 2025. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. A private committal service will follow on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in the family cemetery.

On August 15, 2025, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Kinston Police Department D-Squad officers conducted a traffic stop on Vernon Avenue with 49-year-old Eric Pettry of LaGrange. During the stop, K9 Kilo performed an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics.

Wallace “Mike” Michael Jones, 67, of Kinston went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 11, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree Street, Kinston, NC. A reception will follow in Moseley Hall.

Charlie Dunn Alston, passed away peacefully at his home in LaGrange, NC on August 10, 2025, at the age of 86. The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service ~ Letchworth Chapel in Scotland Neck on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with Elder William Edwards officiating the service. A private burial will take place at the Baptist Cemetery.
