North Lenoir High School’s drama department will bring Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” to the stage April 23-25, continuing a long-running tradition in a program that is nearing its 40th anniversary.

Two weeks ago, the Kinston Young Marines visited the GI Joe's Military Living History Museum to tour American military history and celebrate important milestones. On March 27, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Kinston Police Department D-Squad officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to maintain lane control.
KPD says officers cleared in 2025 Manchester Road shooting
The Kinston Police Department is announcing the conclusion of the independent investigation into the officer involved shooting that occurred on July 20, 2025, on the 1300 block of Manchester Road. After a thorough review of all available evidence, including body worn camera footage, witness statements, forensic analysis, and findings from the North Carolina State Burau of Investigation and the Ninth Prosecutorial District Attorney’s Office, it has been determined that the officers involved acted lawfully and in accordance with department policy.

Plaza post office regains full counter service in Kinston
The Plaza Kinston Post Office has now regained full counter service, marking the latest step in the facility’s recovery after tornado damage forced its closure in 2023. Former Kinston Mayor Don Hardy announced the update Wednesday, and the U.S. Postal Service location page now lists retail hours for the branch, which had reopened in September 2025 for PO box access only. USPS lists the Plaza Kinston branch at 2433 N. Herritage St. and shows retail hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
