Letter to the editor: Red Cross Month honors neighbors who give hope when help can’t wait

As our country marks its 250th year, I’ve been thinking about what truly brings communities together. For me, it always comes down to people — neighbors caring for neighbors. In my role as executive director for the Red Cross North Carolina Cape Fear Chapter, I get to see that kindness every day through our lifesaving mission, which has been part of our country’s fabric for more than half of those 250 years.

Obituary: Mildred Eva Boney Matthis

Mildred Eva Boney Matthis, 98 of 2312 Riley Road, Kinston NC died March 5, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 9, 2026, at Queen Street United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kim Lail and the Reverend Karl Grant officiating. Internment will immediately follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

KPD: Operation Wintergreen – Seized Property and Search Locations

In reference to the media release from Operation Wintergreen, detectives from the Kinston Police Department have worked around the clock to process, inventory, and document the items collected during the execution of the search warrants. This was an extensive and detailed process that required a coordinated effort from patrol officers, investigators, evidence technicians, and administrative staff.
