Lenoir County Guardian ad Litem program highlights child advocates during prevention month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Child Advocate Month, and North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program 9th Judicial District is raising awareness of the need for more dedicated members of the community to step up and become Guardian ad Litem child advocate volunteers, and help end child abuse and neglect, through supporting children and their families.

Greene County 2026 Governor's Volunteer Awards Recipients

(Snow Hill, NC) – The North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service has presented the 2026 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award to Samantha Gay, Virginia Thomas, Dorothy Harrison, Chester Harrison, and Greene Central FFA. The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award honors people who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by making a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service.

Veteran Column: G.I. Joes

Two weeks ago, the Kinston Young Marines visited the GI Joe's Military Living History Museum to tour American military history and celebrate important milestones. During the visit, eight Young Marines graduated from recruit training and were promoted to the rank of Young Marine Private, while two advanced from Private to Private First Class. The unit also recognized YM PVT Pileggi, S for earning her Community Service Ribbon and YM PVT Pileggi, L for earning her Musician Ribbon.
