The success of our community begins with Lenoir County Public Schools (LCPS) and the upcoming election is an opportunity for voters to extend LCPS’s capacity for success well beyond the current trajectory. LCPS needs its Board of Education (BOE) members to be standard bearers for the necessary partnerships between teachers, parents/guardians, administrators, and county commissioners required for identifying and obtaining the resources for meeting LCPS’s achievement goals.
I have never been the biggest fan of turnips, but I have discovered over the past few years that if prepared in the right way, they will take on a variety of unique flavors depending on your recipe. Turnips are often mistaken for a member of the root family, in reality the turnip belongs to the cruciferous family whose cousins are Brussels sprouts, kale and broccoli. Even so, most often consumed is the bulbous root of the turnip.
In support of Operation Stop Arm week, the State Highway Patrol will be aggressively enforcing stop arm and other traffic violations in and around school zones and school bus stops.
Art 105 is holding an Open House at 105 W. Blount Street in Kinston. Art 105 has 12 artists with a variety of art mediums on display. There will be live demonstrations, photography, live music, hors d’oeuvres.
On November 12, 2017 around 1:15 a.m., the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office responded to 308 W. Queen Street in LaGrange, NC for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies found a shooting had occurred and numerous victims were at the scene. The incident occurred in an outbuilding located on the property.
On December 7, 2020, Lenoir County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a shooting incident at 2400 Beechnut Drive in Kinston. Upon arrival, deputies found a victim, Montez Garner, deceased from a gunshot wound. Deputies arrested Clayton Fernado Clark Jr. at the scene in regards to this incident.
Smart Gallery will present artist Connie Hull for its next Artist Talk on Thursday, October 27th at 6pm. The title of the talk will be "Ladies Who Lunch", A Portion of Cultural and Economic Disparities Served Within a Menu of Worldwide Hunger.
The North Carolina Community Foundation has completed its 2022 round of grantmaking from its COVID-19 relief fund, with another $1.25 million distributed to assist nonprofit organizations that were impacted by revenue loss and increased demand for services because of the pandemic.
The CSS Neuse Gunboat Association, the official nonprofit support group for the CSS Neuse Museum in Kinston, is hosting the “Autumn’s in the Air” Fall Festival from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday, on the grounds of the Governor Richard Caswell Memorial, located at 2612 W. Vernon Ave in Kinston.
North Carolina’s attorney general brought a message of internet safety to LCPS sixth graders on Wednesday and urged them to take those tips home to their families.
Lenoir Community College Associate Dean Carlos Cotto and Workforce Development Coordinator Prudencio Mengel joined their colleagues from the Hispanic leadership in the state at the home of Governor Roy Cooper recently in celebration of Hispanic Heritage recently. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for a state-of-the-art 48,000 square foot hanger at flyExclusive. The new hanger serves as the latest installment and investment for the company’s growing Maintenance, Repairs, and Overhaul (MRO) business division. This expansion brings nearly 200 new jobs to the area.
