Public Notice: Notice of Public Hearing FY 2026-2027 Budget

The public is hereby advised that per G.S. 159-12, the Interim City Manager has submitted the proposed budget for the City of Kinston for FY 2026-2027 to the Mayor and the City Council. A copy of the proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027 is on file in the office of the City Clerk, the Public Library and on the City of Kinston's website, www.kinstonnc.gov. The budget is available for public inspection during normal business hours untilthe budget ordinance is adopted. The City Clerk's office is located in City Hall at 207 E. King Street, Kinston, North Carolina.

I feel compelled to address recent statements made by Lenoir County Commissioner Keith King and North Carolina House Representative Chris Humphrey regarding the City of Kinstonโ€™s proposed FY26 Budget and property tax rate. As the Mayor of Kinston, I believe the public deserves a clearer and more complete understanding of the facts, particularly those that were not fully explained or were presented without proper context.

Congressman Davis urges reversal of police dissolution as Snow Hill schedules emergency meeting

SNOW HILL โ€” U.S. Congressman Don Davis is urging the Town of Snow Hill to reconsider its decision to dissolve the municipal police department, as the townโ€™s Board of Commissioners prepares for an emergency meeting scheduled for Monday, June 2, at 1 p.m. The meeting follows a 3-2 vote last week to disband the department and transition law enforcement services to the Greene County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

In accordance with N.C.G.S. 159-12(b) for the purpose of taking comments from the public with regards to the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget, as proposed and submitted by the County Manager to the Board of Commissioners on May 5, 2025, the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners will conduct a Public Hearing on Monday, June 16, 2025, during the regular meeting of the Commissioners which begins at 4:00 p.m. in the Commissionerโ€™s Chambers located at 101 N Queen Street, Kinston, NC, second floor. 

Letter to the Editor: Greene County Budget Process Needs to Start Earlier

As a Greene County Commissioner, I am writing to express my concern about the timeline of the budget process for the upcoming 2025-2026 fiscal year in our county. While neighboring counties like Pitt, Lenoir, and Wilson are well into their budget discussions, holding workshops and making critical decisions, Greene County Commissioners have yet to receive a copy of our proposed budget.

Public Hearing: Fiscal Year 2024-2024 Manager's Recommended Budget

In accordance with N.C.G.S. 159-12(b) for the purpose of taking comments from  the public with regards to the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget, as proposed and submitted by the County Manager to the Board of Commissioners on May 20, 2024, the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners will conduct a Public Hearing on Monday, June 17,  2024, during the regular meeting of the Commissioners which begins at 4:00 p.m. in the  Commissionerโ€™s Chambers located at 101 N Queen Street, Kinston, NC, second floor. 

Increased funding for education and emergency services in Greene County's budget

Snow Hill - County Manager Kyle J. DeHaven presented the Greene County Commissioners with the proposed 2024 budget for review and consideration. After a public hearing, the commissioners voted four to one in a recommendation of the proposed budget, with Commissioner Derek Burress as the dissenting opinion. The budget outlines several key highlights aimed at addressing various county needs and initiatives. To ensure a balanced budget, the proposed tax rate of $.786 per $100 valuation will remain the same. Additionally, an EMS Tax of $.04 per $100 valuation is being introduced.
