Letter to the Editor: Humphrey voices support for Kinston residents opposing city tax increase
Dear. Editor,
Rep. Chris Humphrey.
I would like to personally thank Mr. Keith King, Mr. Lew Blevins, Mrs. Carol Blevins, Mr. Glen Olds and Ms. Glenda Thomas for taking the time to speak out at the recent Kinston City Council public hearing regarding the proposed property tax increase. As your representative in the North Carolina House, I want you to know that I stand with you in your concerns. I have shared my concerns with both Mayor Don Hardy and Mayor Pro Tem "Pearl" Hardy.
At a time when families and businesses are already facing rising costs, increasing property taxes places an additional burden on those who can least afford it. Fiscal responsibility should begin with finding ways to make government more efficient—not with asking taxpayers to dig deeper.
I commend you for making your voices heard. Your engagement is essential to keeping our communities accountable and focused on practical solutions that serve the public without overreaching into their pockets.
Please know that I will continue to advocate for responsible governance and for policies that protect working families, homeowners, and job creators in Kinston and throughout our region.
Sincerely,
Rep. Chris Humphrey
NC House District 12
