Evelyn Dove Coleman: Full Circle Friends

Evelyn Dove Coleman: Full Circle Friends

It is simply amazing to me how many old friends have been separated by miles or work but have come back into my life. I even wondered if my family had sent out a message from one of my old address books, but they had not. It is just part of the universe.  We run across a phone number jotted down somewhere long ago put away.  Or, the record that rolls the long way around in our brains brings up an old memory and we want to reach out to the one who shared that experience.

Some of my old acquaintances were very dear at one point in my early years.  We grew in different directions. But we must have had a common core because we drifted back toward the center together. And things were just like old times. We could laugh and talk over a meal as if we saw each other a few days ago when it has been years.  I guess it means that people don't change that very much as we age. Our basic character is made young.

Friends from grade school, from law school, and from my very first full-time job have come full-circle back into my life and we are in touch regularly.  It feels good.  These are people who knew me when I was becoming who I am now. They know how my experiences shaped me. And fortunately, they know that my faith is still solid.  I believe that all things work together for our good as the scripture says, although some parts really hurt. Do all  the good you can and then stand.
