Evelyn Dove Coleman: Forced Into Treatment
I didn't want to do Dialysis when my blood pressure spiked and damaged my kidneys. As I lay in the E.R. waiting for the Hospice team to come interview me, in walked my adult twin sons. One has his Master's in Public Health and one has an A.I.A. in Risk Management. They are business executives that I raised, so of course I am going to listen to them. My doctor knew that.
Then, in walked my sister. Then one of my brothers called me and the other brother walked in. I was outnumbered. My sons had done the research on the treatments the doctors were recommending to me and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Try it until Christmas and if I didn't feel better, let them know. I felt better within two weeks. No wonder Dr. Eric Ibegbu had told their Grandfather when they were teens "they are some heavy dudes."
My sister nursed me back to health like a baby. Finally, I was blessed to have a kidney transplant with Dr. Matthew Ellis and Dr. Andrew Barbas at Duke Hospital. I named my new kidney "Joy." My sons provided me a place near my treatment and care with Dr. Pun at the V.A. Hospital. I am grateful that I am able to continue 34-year-old PathChoice Ministry, still providing confidential pastoral counseling and having provisions delivered to those in need by amazon.com.
For now send donations to 3821 Lochnora Parkway, Durham, NC 27705. The nonprofit 501 (c)(3) EIN is 56-2152127.
