Letter to the Editor: Saturday marks the end of early voting for the 2026 Primary Election

February 22, 2026

This Saturday marks the end of early voting for the 2026 Primary Election.

I have had the privilege of serving in the District 1 seat on the Lenoir County Board of Education for the past three years, and it has been an honor to serve our community. My children attend Lenoir County Public Schools—South Lenoir High School and Woodington Middle School—where they are active in clubs and sports. During the school year, you can usually find me in a gym or at a ball field cheering them on. When I am not there, I am often at an awards day, school program, or another school-related event.

Since beginning my term, I have stayed true to the core reasons I first ran: transparency, accountability, accessibility, and being a strong voice for parents and students. These principles have helped me build positive, productive relationships with fellow board members, the Superintendent’s office, central office staff, administrators, and educators. I have also connected more closely with parents, grandparents, guardians, and others who care deeply about our schools. From the beginning, I promised to speak up, ask hard questions, and hold leaders accountable for their actions and votes. I have done so, and I will continue to do so—because our parents and students deserve it.

I currently serve on the Capital Outlay Committee and chair the Policy Committee. Early on, I saw the need to review policies that had not been updated since 2009. Over the past year, our committee has worked with the Superintendent’s office and the North Carolina School Boards Association to review each policy to ensure our district is legally sound and serving students and families well. We are about halfway through this important work.

The pandemic took a tremendous toll on our children, but through hard work and dedication, LCPS has seen increases in scholarship dollars awarded, countywide academic growth, and a dropout rate at an all-time low.

These past three years have been a rewarding season of service. I respectfully ask for your vote so I can continue advocating for parents and students. Please re-elect Michelle Davis and keep a strong voice for families on the Lenoir County Board of Education.

Thank you,

Michelle Davis
