Letter to the Editor: Lenoir County School Board Candidate Billy Davis
To the Voters of Lenoir County School Board District 1,
District 1 has always been home to me. I was raised here. I raised my children here. Today, I am proud to be watching my first grandchild grow up here. The future of our schools matters deeply to me, not just as a candidate, but as a parent, a grandparent, and a lifelong member of this community.
My name is Billy Davis, and I am a candidate in the 2026 Primary Election for Lenoir County School Board District 1. I previously served on the Lenoir County Board of Education, and I am running again because I bring proven experience, steady leadership, and a clear understanding of how our school system works.
In addition to my board service, I spent 32 years working within the Lenoir County school system before retiring. That experience gave me firsthand knowledge of how decisions made at the board level affect classrooms, staff, and students every day. I understand the challenges our schools face because I have lived them, and I believe that perspective matters.
During my prior service on the Board of Education, I played an active and productive role in the work of the board. I served multiple years on the Capital Outlay Committee, helping guide responsible planning for school facilities and long term infrastructure needs. I also served on the Policy Committee, working to strengthen and update policies that govern our schools. This work required diligence, collaboration, and a focus on what was best for students while being mindful of taxpayers.
I worked well with fellow board members, the superintendent, assistant superintendent, and central office staff because progress in education does not happen through division. It happens when leaders work together with respect, consistency, and a shared focus on student success.
I strongly support academics and believe every student deserves the same opportunity to succeed. I also believe effective school board members must be prepared, approachable, and willing to listen. During my service, I made it a priority to stay connected to our schools and our community, understanding that good decisions come from being informed and engaged.
Service has been a constant in my life. I have volunteered with the Boy Scouts for more than 20 years and currently serve as Cubmaster of Pack 447. I have served over a decade with our volunteer fire department and currently serve as a captain. I am a longtime member of Deep Run First Baptist Church, a member and past master of Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge, and an active supporter of South Lenoir FFA and community events across Lenoir County.
Lenoir County deserves experienced leadership that brings stability, collaboration, and a steady hand to the Board of Education. I have served our schools as an employee, as a board member, and as a community volunteer. I understand the responsibility, and I am ready to serve again without a learning curve.
I respectfully ask for your vote and support in the 2026 Primary Election for Lenoir County School Board District 1.
Respectfully submitted,
Billy Davis
Candidate for Lenoir County Board of Education
District 1
2026 Primary Election
