Obituary: Charles G. Radford
July 22, 1954 – September 19, 2025
La Grange – Charles G. Radford, 71, passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of September 19, 2025, at home with his beloved wife by his side. Charles was born in Greene County on July 22, 1954, to the late Maggie and Herman Radford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Eula Mae Joyner of La Grange; sisters, Virginia Vinson and Joyce Tyndall, both of Goldsboro, Roberta Watkins of La Grange, and Shirley Dail of Beaulaville; and brothers, Glenn Radford, Sydney Radford, Ricky Radford, and Shelton Radford, all of La Grange, and Earl Radford of Goldsboro.
Charles is survived by his wife of 51 years, Connie Joyner Radford. He is also survived by their two daughters: Kristy L. Radford (Hazel G. Radford) of La Grange, and Maggie Mercer (T.C.) of Albertson; two grandchildren, Jag Mercer and Chance Mercer; and two step-grandchildren, J’Ceon Bonner and Jayden Bonner; and a passel of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Charles is additionally survived by his sister, Delores Stallings of La Grange; and brothers, Carlton Radford (Ercell), and Herman Radford Jr. (Mae), both of Goldsboro, and Rodney Radford of Fremont.
A devoted North Carolina Tar Heels fan, Charles loved Tar Heel basketball, win, lose, or draw. He deeply cherished time spent with family, and he was known for making the best chicken salad and for his talent as a joke teller. He loved to fish and hunt, but his greatest priority in life was working hard to provide for his family. He loved them deeply and did all he could to support them.
In the evenings, Charles could often be found relaxing on the porch swing, watching cars pass by or simply enjoying time talking with his wife and just swingin’. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball with his brothers and friends at the La Grange ballpark.
“To our daddy: we will hold you in our hearts for as long as we live. We love you dearly, and thank you for all you have done for us.”
A graveside service to honor and remember Charles’s life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
