Simon Wood

October 28, 1958 – September 29, 2025

La Grange-William Jason “Simon” Wood Jr., 66, departed this life on Monday, September 29, 2025. Simon was born in Lenoir County to the late Jason and Geneva Smith Wood on October 28, 1958. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Foss; great-nephew, Charlie Robert Foss; sister-in-law, Mildred Foss; and a special, life-long friend, Charles Sauls.

Simon lived life on the road. A dedicated delivery driver in the auto parts industry for many years, his expert navigation and deep familiarity with the highways and backroads of the country made him a legend among his peers. From covering a 600-mile night route to driving cross-country from California to Goldsboro during his time as a repo truck driver, Simon always made the journey with precision and purpose. He even boasted an impressive 77-mile-per-hour average on his trips from California to Goldsboro.

In the miles Simon covered, he lived fully through the people he met along the way. No matter where he was, he could always find someone he knew. Easy to talk to with and friendly to all, he was quick to make friends. A true enthusiast of live music, he especially loved classic Rock and Roll, and was never happier than when attending a car show or riding the open road on his Harley-Davidson.

Day or night, near or far, if you needed something, Simon was just a phone call away. Whenever you’d call, he’d make sure you received what you needed.

With a tender heart fond of animals, Simon leaves behind his beloved cats, Sweetie and Bootsy, in addition to his loving family and numerous friends.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to service. Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Simon is survived by his siblings, Emmett Foss Jr., John Foss (Phyllis), and Terry Foss; nieces and nephews, Mandy Foss (Amanda), Matt Foss, Laura Foss, John Foss Jr. (Stephanie), David Foss (Ashley), Bob Foss Jr. (Karen), Joey Foss, and Melissa Martin-Wilder; numerous great-nieces and nephews; along with a host of dear friends.
