Meet me: Lilli Daughety

Meet me: Lilli Daughety

There’s something simple yet powerful about a smile. In a world that can feel overwhelming, a smile can be a beacon of light. I’ve always believed in its ability to connect with others and brighten someone’s day. After all, you’re never fully dressed without a smile.

As an adoptee from China, my life has been shaped by love, a force that transcends boundaries. Welcomed into my family on March 17, 2008, I learned that love is not just a feeling but a foundation. Named after my great-grandmother Lilli, whose strength and grace inspire me, I have grown up rooted in faith, hope, and gratitude.

Now finishing my senior year at North Lenoir High School, I am proud to have founded the LeadHERship Club to empower young women, served as Vice President of the Student Government Association, and stayed active in several other clubs. What I treasure most, however, are the meaningful connections I have made. Whether I am cheering on my team, volunteering at community events, or capturing senior memories through photography, I have learned that it is not just about what you do, but how you make others feel.

This June, I will graduate with both my high school diploma and an Associate Degree in Science from Lenoir Community College. The quote “Flowers don’t compare themselves to others; they just bloom” has become my compass, reminding me that my path is unique. Comparing myself to others only takes away from the joy of blooming in my own time and way.

Outside of academics, I enjoy giving back to my community. From helping with Vacation Bible School to handing out water at the Ironclad Half Marathon, volunteering has taught me the importance of service and connection. In my free time, I love making ice cream with my Ninja Creami and sneaking in a midday nap, which is my favorite guilty pleasure.

A fun fact about me is that from ages seven to eleven, I had the honor of singing the national anthem at Wood Ducks and Freedom Classic baseball games. These days, I save my singing for the car or the shower, and for good reason.

In the fall, I will attend NC State University as a Goodnight Scholar, majoring in Biological Sciences with the goal of becoming a dentist. Go Pack!

Being able to intern at Magic Mile Media this summer is certainly a dream! I am gaining hands-on experience in social media management and getting a behind-the-scenes look at some of my favorite local events. One of these is the BBQ Festival, where I have been dancing with my studio since I was five years old. This internship will help me learn how to promote a business, a skill that will be valuable in my future career.

No matter where life takes me, I hope to continue spreading kindness, positivity, and smiles. As a future dentist, I want to help people feel confident, not just in their smile, but in who they are.
