Obituary: Sutton Hardy
Sutton Hardy
November 25, 1952 – December 25, 2025
Lemuel Sutton Hardy, 73, completed his course of faith and entered into rest in the arms of his Savior early Christmas morning, December 25, 2025. Sutton was born in Lenoir County on November 25, 1952, to the late Joseph Lemuel Hardy and Hazel Sutton Hardy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Williams.
After completing his education as a draftsman, Sutton worked for Joy Manufacturing for ten years before transitioning to a career as a bulk truck driver with AmeriGas, where he remained until his retirement. In retirement, Sutton could most often be found wherever Faye was, as the two spent their lives hand in hand.
A lifetime member of Wheat Swamp Christian Church, Sutton served as a deacon throughout his entire adult life, including many years as chairman of the deacon board. From Pepper Relish making and Harvest Festivals to committee meetings and worship services, Sutton was involved in every aspect of church life. His faith was evident through his faithful service and lifelong commitment to the church and its people.
In his younger years, Sutton enjoyed spending time fishing. Later in life, his days revolved around the activities and milestones of his family. He made it his goal to never miss a moment with his children and grandchildren. Many of those memories were preserved through his camera, as he faithfully captured and kept printed memories for those he loved.
Sweet in demeanor and ever kind, Sutton was honest, fair, and loving. He cherished every opportunity to gather family around a good meal and meaningful conversation. He was well known for inviting others to “come and sit a minute,” ensuring that no moment of fellowship was rushed.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Wheat Swamp Christian Church, with Pastor Hank Jarman officiating. Committal will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Rouse Funeral Home.
Sutton is survived by his wife of nearly 44 years, Faye Hardy; daughter, Angela Faye Williams Sutton and husband Scott; son, Brian Delwood Williams and wife Ashleigh; daughter-in-law, Donna W. Losew; grandchildren, Ashley Michael Sutton, John Richard Williams, Elizabeth Faye Sutton, Elizabeth Elaine Johnson, Sommer Johnson, and Cassidy Cowley; brother, Jackie Hardy; sister-in-law, Jean Rollins; and his favorite companion and best buddy, Snowball.
