Kinston Parks and Rec Supervisor, local pastor charged with rape and kidnapping

Berry Building Group, a Greenville-based contractor, has filed a lawsuit against Lenoir County and several county officials, claiming the county owes them more than $1.3 million following a fraudulent email scam that redirected payments. The lawsuit was filed on July 3, 2025, with the complaint document file-stamped July 17, 2025.

Kinston has earned its third All-America City Award, a national recognition reserved for communities that excel in civic engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and local problem-solving. It’s a proud moment. We deserve to celebrate. But as banners are raised and congratulations echo through City Hall, we need to ask a harder question:

Two Kinston-based healthcare companies and several individuals have been named in a sweeping federal crackdown on health care fraud, which U.S. officials say is the largest in Department of Justice history.

A decision by the Lenoir County SPCA Board of Directors to terminate its shelter director has sparked a wave of staff resignations, public backlash, and an online petition calling for her reinstatement.
