Jimmy West Sutton

November 12, 1943 – November 24, 2025

Bucklesberry — Jimmy West Sutton, 82, entered into the joy of his salvation on Monday morning, November 24, 2025. Jimmy was born in Lenoir County to the late Norman and Mary Rouse Sutton on November 12, 1943. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Alice Faye Hopkins, Vann Sutton, and Jeffrey Sutton.

With a strong work ethic instilled from an early age, Jimmy was a hard worker who did “whatever it took to feed seven youngins.” He retired from both the Town of La Grange and the La Grange Fire Department, and he also owned Head and Sons Well Drilling. From plumbing to electrical work, Jimmy was able to do it all. He loved dirt racing, fishing, cooking a hog, and enjoying his Red Man chewing tobacco. His beagle, Half Pint, was his constant companion, and he always remained a kid at heart.

Above all, Jimmy’s life was a testament to the faith he held in Jesus Christ. Wherever he was and whomever he was with, he was never ashamed of the gospel of Christ and did all he could to witness to others. In both word and deed, Jimmy’s life exemplified the life of a Christian, as he always sought to honor his Lord in all he did.

A service of love and remembrance will be held by the graveside at the Sutton Family Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. The family will receive friends following the service.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Marilyn; his children, Robin Williams and husband Todd, Vince Riley, Chris Riley and wife Deborah, Jay Sutton and wife Vickie, Tim Riley and wife Brenda, Warren Riley and wife Tracie, and Wesley Sutton and wife Toni; his grandchildren, Trey Mooring, Elizabeth Sutton, Meredith Bullock, Justin Riley, Andrew Riley, Rebekah Santarpio, Corbin Riley, Katie Letchworth, J.W. Sutton III, Ryan Riley, Spencer Millen, Makenzie Vaughn, Patrick Riley, and Paxton Riley; twelve great-grandchildren; and one brother, Phillip N. Sutton.
