Last week, I focused on the contributions of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, two signers of the Declaration of Independence who served this fledgling nation with distinction after the American Revolution. Today, I would like to briefly focus on a few others whose work shaped the birth and growth of the institutions we so often take for granted.

Sheriff Rogers and K-9 Teddy Complete 240-Hour Law Enforcement Therapy Dog Training
Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers and K-9 Teddy have successfully completed 240 hours of Basic Canine Handler School for Law Enforcement Therapy Dog Training through East Coast Canine, Inc., in Rocky Mount.

The Rev. Dr. Warren Randall “Randy” Spaugh, 72, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Kinston. A visitation and reception will follow in Moseley Hall.
