The Rev. Dr. Warren Randall “Randy” Spaugh, 72, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Randy was born on April 3, 1954 in Forsyth County and raised in the Tobaccoville community by his parents, Warren and Doris Spaugh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Spaugh; and a nephew, Cory Spaugh.
A graduate of Atlantic Christian College, Randy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy before continuing his theological education at Duke University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received a Master's degree in Religion. He later attended Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, earning his Doctor of Ministry degree.
Randy began his pastoral ministry serving New Hope Christian Church and Reelsboro Christian Church in Reelsboro, North Carolina. He later served the congregations of First Christian Church in Eden, North Carolina; First Christian Church in Hopewell, Virginia; Gordon Street Christian Church in Kinston, North Carolina; and Faith Fellowship Church in Kinston, North Carolina.
Even in retirement, Randy's calling to ministry never ceased. He faithfully served as a chaplain at UNC Health Lenoir and found a cherished church home with the congregation of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
Throughout Randy’s life, he found strength in the gospel and maintained a personal devotion that was steady, humble, and sincere. He was a faithful prayer partner to many. One of his greatest joys was sharing the Word by preaching and teaching.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Kinston. A visitation and reception will follow in Moseley Hall.
Randy is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Margaret Spaugh; daughter, Mara Moye and husband Bill; son, Jonas Spaugh and wife Jessica; grandsons, Jacob “Jake” Moye, James “Jamie” Moye, and Wyatt Spaugh; mother-in-law, Annie Dixon; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Spaugh and Caroline Kinkton and husband Billy; and nieces and nephew, Mikal Dixon, Jennifer Woller and husband Aaron, and Kassi Everette and husband Josh.
