Mrs. Carol Crawford Smith of Magnolia Cottage, Dover, North Carolina, passed away on January 23rd, 2026. No formal service is planned at this time. Mrs. Smith’s ashes will be interred at a graveside service in Iron Duff at a later date.

The CSS Neuse Foundation is responsible for the CSS Neuse II, a full-scale replica of the original CSS Ram Neuse. This ironclad gunboat was outfitted and stationed here in Kinston.

Alan Wallace, 73, of Kinston, NC, passed away on January 20, 2026. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 29, at 2pm in the Edwards Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Dino kale has an earthy, nutty flavor. It doesn't have the same strong bitterness as other varieties of kale, though it is still there. The sweetness helps offset that and makes it more approachable.
