Rep. Chris Humphrey: The HWY 58 Connector
Dear Neighbor,
I hope you and your family are doing well as we start the new year. It’s been a busy month here in Raleigh and across Lenoir, Greene, and Jones counties, and I’ve continued working on the issues I hear about most from folks back home.
From cost-of-living concerns to supporting our local law enforcement, agriculture, and students, my focus remains on practical solutions that help families and communities across Eastern North Carolina.
Thank you for the continued honor of representing you in the NC House. If my office can ever be a resource for you or your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
At your service,
Chris Humphrey
State Representative
FIGHTING FOR LOWER PROPERTY TAXES!
Many families across eastern North Carolina — especially seniors and young homeowners — are feeling the strain of rising property taxes.
I stand by our efforts in the NC House to explore smart, fiscally responsible reforms that ease this burden without compromising essential local services.
Together, we’re identifying solutions to protect the American dream of homeownership and ensure affordability for all.

HONORING OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT HEROES
Earlier this month on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we expressed our gratitude for the law enforcement officers across Eastern North Carolina who serve our communities with dedication, integrity, and courage — day in and day out.
To our law enforcement heroes: Thank you for the sacrifices you and your families make every day to keep our towns and counties safe.
NC PORK COUNCIL CHALLENGE
I was proud to take part in the NC Pork Council challenge by purchasing two hams and donating them to those in need. I invited Sheriff Jackie Rogers and Lenoir County Commissioner J Mac Daughety to join me in this challenge, and I’m grateful they have also paid it forward.
Agriculture is the backbone of Eastern North Carolina, and this challenge is a great way to give back while celebrating that heritage.
IN MEMORY OF LENOIR COUNTY COMMISSIONER ROLAND BEST JR.
Lenoir County Commissioner Roland Best Jr., a longtime public servant and respected community leader, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025. He was 74.
"Commissioner Best was a fine man and dedicated public servant," said Rep. Humphrey, "His background in law enforcement made him a strong advocate for a safer society. May God bless his friends and family."
