Rep. Chris Humphrey: The HWY 58 Connector
Dear Neighbor,
As summer turns to fall, I’ve been grateful for the chance to spend time with so many of you across Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties while also staying hard at work in Raleigh.
This month’s newsletter includes updates from across our district, reflections on leaders we’ve lost, and celebrations of the good work happening in our schools and communities. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read through the highlights.
As always, if my office can ever be of help to you or your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
At your service,
Chris Humphrey
State Representative
HONORING THE LIFE OF CHARLIE KIRK
We continue to pray for Erika Kirk, her children, and all who grieve Charlie Kirk’s tragic murder. May God grant peace to his family and strength to our nation. Violence must never replace dialogue.
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
GREENE COUNTY
It was a joy to visit several Greene County Schools along with School Board Vice-Chair Brandon Johnson. I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Superintendent Dr. Rodney McNeill and the dedicated Principals leading these schools. I'm grateful for their commitment to education and the betterment of Greene County’s students!
JONES COUNTY
I had the honor of speaking at the Jones County Teacher Convocation in August. It was a pleasure to thank the amazing teachers, staff, and administrators who give so much of themselves to their students. Their dedication and passion is inspiring — and I’m grateful for the difference they are making in the lives of Jones County’s next generation.
LENOIR COUNTY
I was glad to join Lenoir County Commissioner J. Mac Daughety, Sheriff Jackie Rogers, and School Board Member Jonathan Britt as we visited schools across the county to welcome back our incredible teachers and staff. From Southwood to Pink Hill, Moss Hill to Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast Elementary, it was a privilege to share our appreciation and prayers for a safe, successful school year. Thank you to our principals and educators for all you do to support Lenoir County’s students!
THE FILLING STATION'S NEW WAREHOUSE IN JONES COUNTY
I was honored to attend and speak at the ribbon cutting for The Filling Station’s new warehouse in Jones County. This project came to life thanks to the dedication of community partners, contractors, and volunteers who poured their time and energy into making it a reality. It was a great day celebrating what we can accomplish when we come together to serve our neighbors!
CONGRATULATIONS, LENOIR COUNTY 4-H!
Congratulations to the Lenoir County 4-H team on earning top honors at the 2025 North Carolina Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals (NCAE4-HYDP) Annual Conference!
Abbigail Wells & Joel Dixon brought home two First Place Communicator Awards for their innovative “The Best Better Podcast” — and Joel received the State Service Award for his outstanding leadership.
I’m proud to see Lenoir County youth programming leading the way in creativity, education, and engagement. Keep up the great work!
IN MEMORY OF SENATOR LOUIS M. PATE, JR.
I first met Senator Louis Pate back around 1996, when I opened a small business in Mount Olive, North Carolina, and he was my landlord. Over the years, I was honored to work with him in different capacities—as a member of the La Grange Town Council, as a Lenoir County Commissioner, and more recently when we briefly served together in the North Carolina Legislature after my election to the NC House in 2018.
Senator Pate was a statesman, a gentleman, and a genuinely good man. His service and character leave a lasting mark on our state and our communities.
