High-Speed Pursuit Leads to Felony Arrest on I-795

Over the weekend, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reduction Team (CRT) partnered with the Wayne County DWI Task Force and the Onslow County DWI Task Force to conduct several enforcement events across the eastern region focused on impaired and reckless driving.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, September 21, 2025, deputies assigned to the CRT attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-795. The rider, identified as Christopher Pennington of Kenly, attempted to elude the stop while accelerating to estimated speeds of 180 mph. As the pursuit entered the populated area of Goldsboro, the motorcycle experienced mechanical failure and became disabled. CRT deputies took Pennington into custody and recovered a concealed firearm from his person during the felony arrest.

Pennington was charged with:

Felony Flee to Elude Arrest

Reckless Driving

Other Traffic-Related Offenses

Sheriff Jackie Rogers stated, “The partnerships of our agencies and our teams across North Carolina not only serve to protect our own county citizens, but the state as a whole. GHSP operations are proving highly successful in the interdiction of impaired drivers, aggressive drivers, and criminal activity moving across our jurisdictional borders.”
