The lyrics of an old hymn once common in churches were written by William D. Longstaff in 1882. “Take Time to Be Holy” emphasizes the importance of spending time in prayer and communion with the Lord. As Thanksgiving Day approaches, I think we also need to “Take Time to Be Thankful.”

The Lenoir County Board of Commissioners met Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, approving a series of economic development agreements, departmental budget adjustments and tax-related resolutions during a meeting that highlighted continued industrial growth and ongoing state-funded flood mitigation work.

On November 21, 2025, at 2:05 a.m., officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound at the Circle K on N. Herritage Street. Officers arrived and located 59-year-old Thomas Watson suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. EMS transported Watson to ECU Health for treatment.
