Evelyn Coleman Dove: Miracles Are Just That
Two dear, long-time friends called me recently to share that their close family members face cancer testing or treatment. I've known these friends for decades, and they are both very strong personalities. Yet, the scare of cancer caused their strength to shrink. I found myself reminding them that their very words to me were the exact words of prayers of conviction.
I often tell those requesting prayer about how I felt when the week after my mother's funeral, my father was diagnosed with cancer. My exact emphatic words were, "God you cannot take him now. This family needs him." And that heartfelt, bold prayer beseeching a miracle was answered. My father lived another 15 years after that.
In 2 Kings 20:2-6, Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed and wept and the Lord sent the message "I will heal you." And he added 15 years to his life. That's a faith scripture I love to share with those facing medical issues. My contemporaries are at the age span now where almost everyone we know is seeing doctors. It is hard to hear what the medical team says and hold fast to faith in healing. But we must. Our bodies are physical and they grow weary. So, we must muster the strength in our hearts and in our minds to be steadfast in believing in miracles.
Seemingly impossible things do happen. In the Rogers & Hammerstein movie of 1965 called "Cinderella," there is a song with the phrase something like because those dopes don't listen to sensible people but keep having impossible hopes, impossible things are happening every day.
