Now that July 4 has come and gone, I want to share one of my supreme irritations. As I drive from place to place, I see any number of displays of the U.S. flag. I am sure those who fly the flag do so out of respect for the flag and love for our country.

Lenoir Hospital Foundation recently provided $71,405 for 2023 funding to support UNC Health Lenoir projects. Seven special projects were funded enhancing patient and overall community health.
The Lenoir County Board of Education recently issued a notice stating its intention to sell the property located at 500 Marcella Drive in Kinston, also known as the former Teachers Memorial School. The board plans to conduct the sale through the upset bid process inviting interested parties to submit their initial offers for purchase.
Matilda The Musical is set to grace the Turner Stage at Lenoir Community College for two weekends in July. The musical's narrative centers on Matilda Wormwood, a precocious 5-year-old girl with the gift of telekinesis. She loves reading, overcomes obstacles caused by her family and school, and helps her teacher reclaim her life.

Sarah Smith Long, 88, of Kinston, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Greendale Forrest in Snow Hill. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2023 at Jackson Heights OFWB Church. Funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ashley Summerlin officiating.
