Lenoir Community College set to present Matilda The Musical

By Cailyn Kennedy

Matilda The Musical is set to grace the Turner Stage at Lenoir Community College for two weekends in July. The musical's narrative centers on Matilda Wormwood, a precocious 5-year-old girl with the gift of telekinesis. She loves reading, overcomes obstacles caused by her family and school, and helps her teacher reclaim her life.

The show will be directed by Jessica Cruz, Lenoir Community College's Fine Arts Program Chair and Music Instructor. The show will be held July 14-16 and July 21-23 at LCC in the Briley Auditorium on the Turner Stage. This is one of many shows that will be a part of the performing arts series at LCC and you won’t want to miss this one! The title sponsor of Matilda The Musical is Neuse News.

Tickets are available now at www.lenoircc.edu/matilda. Ticket prices are as follows, accessible seating: $15, orchestra seating: $20, standard seating: $15, and student standard seating (ages 3-17; 18+ student ID required): $10.

Ava Grace Lancaster will be playing the part of Lavender. One of her most significant accolades is that she has been an entrepreneur since 2019. Lancaster is the proud owner and CEO of Ava's Glitzy Gloss, where all girls can feel glitzy, glossy, and bossy. She was featured on WNCT TV for Women's History Month, WITN for small business of the Month, and Nickelodeon, and has participated in many pop-up shops and vendor events. In addition, she serves on the student council at school, aspires to be a cheerleader for Greene County Recreation Department, and has been a past member of the Exquisite Cheer and Dance Team. This is her first production, and she is excited and eager to play the role of Lavender.

Christian Oleneack will take on the role of Nigel. Oleneack resides in New Bern with his sister, Kathleen, and his parents. He enjoys musical theater and is excited to be in his second production at LCC, along with his friends.

Playing Tommy is Jude Brewer. Brewer is thrilled to be a part of his second production at LCC. He has previously been seen as Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol. He is a second-grade student and loves jiu-jitsu, gaming, and Pokémon.

Alice will be portrayed by Audrey Gilmore. Gilmore lives in New Bern and is a 10-year-old homeschooled fourth-grade student. She has only tried out for one play before and got the role of Little Elsa in Frozen, Jr. (RTP) in 2020. She cannot wait to play the role of Alice in Matilda The Musical this year. Gilmore loves tumbling, hanging out with friends, and going to church. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Nolan Terrance Lane will be playing the part of Bruce. Lane is a rising seventh grader who resides in Snow Hill with his parents, two older brothers, and a little sister. He is an active and proud member of the Unlocked Mentoring Alliance, founded by Travonte S. Ham. He is beating the odds against a diagnosis of Craniofacial Fibrous Dysplasia. Lane’s love for music and dance has grown since his diagnosis when he was told sports were no longer possible. This is Lane's first production, and he is excited to play the role of Bruce.
